Design Web brings Interactive Digital Art to the Kentucky State Fair
New Categories Coming to Kentucky State Fair Competitions
Design Web has sponsored a digital art competition at the 2018 Kentucky State Fair.
Louisville, KY – (August 14, 2018) – Several new categories are coming to the Kentucky State Fair Fine Arts and Crafts competitions for 2018, including, for the first time in Kentucky State Fair history, the Design Web Interactive and Digital Art category and Republic Bank First Friday Hop Surrealism category.
The Design Web Interactive Art category showcases websites, video games, apps, and other original interactive digital art created by local developers. Digital interactive art is to be judged not only on aesthetic qualities , but also functionality, technical skill and entertainment value. Trailer videos for many unique games will be on display for the entire Kentucky State Fair with several designated “game days” for hands-on visitor play opportunities. Game days will include mid-day hours on the weekends of August 18-19 and August 25-26 where developers of the submitted games will be on-site to show off their games and apps. This will allow visitors to play and interact with games directly, and even talk to the developers. Several of these games include some exclusive yet-to-be-released titles by local developers from Two Scoop Games and Super Soul. For those attending during the week, a digital kiosk has been installed displaying trailer examples and links for access to download and play many of the entries on display.
“Louisville is rapidly breaking into the tech market and we wanted to take this opportunity to not only highlight the work of these very talented developers, but also help to bring more education to the general public about just how accessible creative technology can be,” Sean Harrington, COO, Design Web, “We have so many great places to learn about technology here in Kentucky — from Warp Zone, to LVL1, to Code Louisville, and First Build with UofL.”
This year’s Interactive Art category was sponsored by Design Web Louisville, INC, a local digital marketing agency that specializes in websites, apps, social media, interactive mapping, and other digital marketing. Additional in-kind sponsorship provided by WarpZone and Nerd Louisville. Visitors will also be able to vote for audience choice digitally at the kiosk through the fair on-site or online here.
This is also the first year for the Republic Bank First Friday Hop Surrealism category, also sponsored by Design Web Louisville. “There were so many fantastic entries this year, so it was difficult to choose a winner,” said Jael Harrington, from the First Friday Hop, “Surrealism is such a unique and prominent art movement here in Louisville and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to help bring that to the Kentucky State fair this year.” Many thanks to Angie Reed Garner with the Garner Narrative Contemporary Gallery and members of the Republic Bank First Friday Hop Gallery Association, for participating as guest judges.
The Republic Bank First Friday Hop takes place the First Friday of every month along the streets of Downtown Louisville. “The Hop” features 50+ galleries and creative spaces, as well as dozens of restaurants, shops, and bars that offer specials on First Friday.
