About Beaded Treasures and the Volunteers of America: Volunteers of America has a mission is to change lives. They are one of our region’s largest, most diverse not-for-profit behavioral health organizations. They reach people through more than 40 programs across four states; Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Clark and Floyd Counties in Indiana. Beaded Treasures is a retail shop connected to a program that trains women in jewelry making and other home-based skills, as well as basic financial literacy to build self-confidence and promote economic self-sufficiency. The objective is not merely to teach a crafting skill but to use art-making as a medium of empowerment. Beaded Treasures has trained 300 underprivileged women with the tools and resources to overcome barriers to success.
